10.000 Sputnik V doses arrive in Albania
Albania has just received 10.000 doses from the Russian-made vaccine Sputnik V.
Attending the ceremony were Minister of Health Ogerta Manastirliu and the Minister of State for the Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj.
During their word, the ministers confirmed that the jabs were donated by the Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates, Muhammed Bin Zayed.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on Facebook images from the moment the packages were delivered, adding that more “doses will arrive” in the upcoming days, while these ones will speed up the rollout.
“Soon a considerable amount of vaccine doses will follow, giving us the opportunity to speed up daily vaccinations, in order to come out of the long tunnel of this wild battle”, he said.
Shifting away from previous statements, when PM Rama said that the country will not accept Russian or Chinese jabs, it appears that the government has taken another stance.
Through a Normative Act dated March 12, the Council of Ministers adopted several amendments to a previous act, paving the way to vaccinations with jabs that have been also approved by “certifying bodies from COVID-19 vaccine producer countries”.
The change came after ministers Manastirliu and Ahmetaj received the green light to enter into negotiations for securing more doses by countries that produce the vaccine and have confirmed its use on their territory.
