Leader of the Alliance on the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj has given up on the ambition to be elected president of Kosovo.

Following the meeting with winners of the February 14th elections, Albin Kurti and Vjosa Osmani, the leader of AAK stated that it is up to them to come up with the right formula to pick the country’s next president, as he doesn’t favor the concentration of the power strictly in Kurti’s hands.

During his statement for the media, Haradinaj emphasized that making threats for new reelections, in the case that Vjosa Osmani doesn’t get elected president, isn’t in anyone’s favor.

“The winners of the elections should come up with the formula to create a government. The majority necessary to pick the president is in their hands. In this case, the AAK doesn’t have the possibility to create a majority with two-thirds of the parliament. What is left to us, is an opposition role that will serve our country… our duty isn’t that of supporting the concentration of power in one pair of hands. In this case, Kurti’s hands. The people gave him the vote, the majority needed to create a government, they didn’t give him two-thirds, necessary to pick the president.  It is up to them and their responsibility how they achieve two-thirds of the vote because the quorum is the vote. The AKK will be taking its own decisions in its own headquarters regarding how we will be acting in any given case in the future,” said Haradinaj.

Haradinaj said that the winners of these elections will have to implement the results of February 14th, and not take the country towards reelections.

“Before we were both part of the opposition, Kurti and I. I told him that we won’t use the old way of opposition-making, that we both used to carry out because I have gotten a bit older now. I can’t anymore, with those same methods. But we will be an opposition that aims to create a functioning democracy between the majority-opposition”, he added.

Today, the candidate for PM from LVV, Albin Kurti and the candidate for president, Vjosa Osmani have also held meetings with the leader of PDK, Enver Hoxhaj.
