North Macedonia census, 130.000 registered from diaspora, fine for those who refuse
Euronews Albania’s correspondent Ferikan Iljazi reporting from Skopje says that the population census is continuing in North Macedonia and added that in the past couple of days there has been a significant rise in applications from the diaspora.
Iljazi also explained that technical problems reported in the first days of the procedure have been overcome and so far 130.000 citizens living abroad have been registered.
At the top of the list stand emigrants from Switzerland, Germany, and Italy.
Authorities have continuously called on citizens to exercise their rights.
Registration of the local population is set to begin on the 1 of April and authorities have warned that those who refuse will be fined €300.
The last population census was carried in 2002, followed by a failed attempt in 2011.
